The specialized symbiotic organs (bacteriomes) of the xylem-feeding insect, Clastoptera arizonana (Cercopoidea).

The bacteriomes (the red and yellow structures on the right which have been exposed by removing the cuticle from the insect's abdomen) house a large number of bacterial endosymbionts which are transmitted maternally to progeny. (P. Tran, University of Arizona.)
