Aztec ( /[[en:Wikipedia:IPA for English#Key|ˈ]][[en:Wikipedia:IPA for English#Key|æ]][[en:Wikipedia:IPA for English#Key|z]][[en:Wikipedia:IPA for English#Key|t]][[en:Wikipedia:IPA for English#Key|ɛ]][[en:Wikipedia:IPA for English#Key|k]]/[1]) là tên gọi một số dân tộc nhất định tại miền trung Mexico, đặc biệt là những người nói tiếng Nahuatl, thống trị phần lớn vùng Trung Bộ châu Mỹ từ thế kỷ 14 đến 16. Từ aztecatl (số ít)[2] aztecah (số nhiều)[2] trong tiếng Nahuatl có nghĩa là "người từ Aztlan",[3] một địa điểm thần loại trong văn hóa Nahuatl đương thời, và sau đó được dùng để chỉ người Mexica. Thông thường "Aztec" được dùng cho người Mexica tại Tenochtitlan (nơi ngày nay là Thành phố Mexico), một thành bang tọa lạc trên Hồ Texcoco; những người này gọi mình là Mēxihcah Tenochcah hay Cōlhuah Mexihcah .

Đôi khi cư dân tại hai thành bang đồng minh của Tenochtitlan, là người Acolhua của Texcoco người Tepanec của Tlacopan cũng được gọi là "Aztec". Họ, cùng với người Mexica, đã thành lập nên Tam Đồng Minh Aztec. Có khi, Aztec được dùng để chỉ các altepetl (thành bang) và cư dân tại đó, những người đã chia sẽ nền văn hóa và lịch sử với người Mexica, Acolhua và Tepanec, và cũng để chỉ những người dùng tiếng Nahuatl như một lingua franca. Từ thế kỷ 13, Thung lũng México là trung tâm của nền văn minh Aztec: nơi đây thủ đô của Tam Đồng Minh Aztec, thành phố Tenochtitlan, được xây dựng trên những đảo nhỏ giữa hồ Texcoco. Tam Đồng Minh mở rộng ảnh hưởng ra ngoài thung lũng México, xâm chiếm các thành bang khác trên khắp Trung Bộ châu Mỹ. Ở đỉnh cao, văn hóa Aztec có một truyền thống thần thoại tôn giáo giàu có và phức tạp, cũng như tạo nên những thành tựu kiến trúc và kinh tế đáng kể. Năm 1521, Hernán Cortés, cùng với những đồng minh bản địa, xâm chiếm Tenochtitlan và đánh bại đội quân Tam Đồng Minh của Hueyi Tlatoani Moctezuma II. Sau đó, người Tây Ban Nha lập nên điểm dân cư mới (Thành phố Mexico) trên thủ đô của Aztec, từ đó tiếp tục tiến trình thuộc địa hóa châu Mỹ.

Văn hóa và lịch sử Aztec được nghiên cứu từ các chứng cứ khảo cổ tìm thấy ở những điểm khai quật như Templo Mayor tại Thành phố Mexico; từ những quyển bản thảo Aztec; từ sự chứng kiến tận mắt của những conquistador như Hernán Cortés Bernal Díaz del Castillo.

Người Aztec[sửa]

Thuật ngữ "Aztec" được dùng cho nhiều dân tộc nói tiếng Nahuatl ở miền trung Mexico trong thời kỳ hậu cổ điển của Trung Bộ châu Mỹ, nhất là người Mexica, những người đã có vai trò chính trong việc thiết lập Tam Đồng Minh. Thuật ngữ này được mở rộng ra để chỉ các dân tộc liên quan như người Acolhua, Tepanec, và một số khác được sáp nhập vào đế chế Aztec sau đó. "Aztec" từng được dùng để chỉ tất cả các dân tộc nói tiếng Nahuatl hiện nay; tiếng Nahuatl trước đây được gọi là "tiếng Aztec". Ngày nay, các dân tộc này được gọi là các dân tộc Nahua.[4][5] Về mặt ngôn ngữ, "Aztec" vẫn được dùng để chỉ một nhánh con trong hệ ngôn ngữ Ute-Aztec, nhánh này gồm tiếng Nahuatl và các ngôn ngữ liên quan (tiếng Pochutec tiếng Pipil).[6]

Văn hóa Aztec[sửa]

Văn hóa Aztec là văn hóa của người Aztec, nhưng vì nhiều dân tộc tại trung Mexico thời đó đều chia sẽ các đặc điểm văn hóa cơ bản, một phần của văn hóa Aztec không thể được xem là chỉ của riêng người Aztec. Vì cùng lý do mà "văn minh Aztec" nên được hiểu là một phần của nền văn minh Trung Bộ châu Mỹ.[7]

Văn hóa tại Trung Mexico bao gồm nghề trồng ngô, sự phân biệt giữa tầng lớp pipiltin (quý tộc) và macehualli (dân thường), đền thờ bách thần (với những vị thần như Tezcatlipoca, Tlaloc and Quetzalcoatl), hai hệ thống lịch xiuhpohualli (365 ngày) và tonalpohualli (260 ngày). Với dân cư Tenochtitlan, có vị thần bảo hộ Huitzilopochtli, kim tự tháp đôi, và nghệ thuật làm gốm.[7]

Đế quốc Aztec[sửa]

Đế quốc Aztec mở rộng quyền lực của mình trong thời kỳ hậu cổ điển tại Trung Bộ châu Mỹ.[8] Nó được thành lập năm 1427 như một liên minh giữa ba thành bang Tenochtitlan, Texcoco, và Tlacopan, liên minh với nhau để cùng đánh bại thành bang Azcapotzalco, mà trước đó thống trị Thung lũng México. Không lâu sau, Texcoco và Tlacopan chỉ còn có vai trò hổ trợ, trong khi Tenochtitlan nắm quyền lãnh đạo thực sự.[9]
