Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (sinh năm 1525 tại Palestrina, gần Roma, mất năm 1594 tại Roma) là nhà soạn nhạc, ca sĩ, nghệ sĩ đàn organ, nhạc trưởng hợp xướng người Ý thời Phục hưng. Ông là một trong những nhà soạn nhạc quan trọng của thời kì này.

Cuộc đời và sự nghiệp[sửa]

Dòng họ da Palestrina của ông xuất phát từ nơi sinh ra của ông (điều này phổ biến ở nhiều họ của người Ý, tiêu biểu như Leonardo da Vinci thì họ da Vinci có nghĩa là Leonardo của vùng đất Vinci, nơi ông được sinh ra). Giovanni da Palestrina học nhạc khi hát cho dàn đồng ca trẻ em nhà thờ Santa Maria Maggiore, thủ đô Roma. Năm 1551, ông chuyển về sinh sống tại Rome, lần lượt làm thầy dạy hát và phụ trách cho dàn hợp xướng trẻ em của Capella Giulia, trở thành ca sĩ trong Tòa thánh Vatican, chỉ huy hợp xướng nhà thờ John Lateran, nhà thờ Saint Maria Maggiore, cuối cùng là người chỉ đạo Cappella cho đến cuối đời.[1]

Phong cách sáng tác[sửa]

Giovanni da Palestrina là nhà soạn nhạc xuất sắc của thế kỷ XVI, nhà kinh điển của thể loại hợp xướng nhiều bè không nhạc đệm (a cappella). Sáng tác của ông chủ yếu năm trong thể loại hợp xướng nhà thờ. Âm nhạc của nhà soạn nhạc thời Phục hưng này giàu sức biểu hiện, kỹ thuật viết hợp xướng ở trình độ bậc thầy. Sự hoàn hảo toàn diện trong âm nhạc hợp xướng của ông đã khiến người ta đặt ông ngang hàng với hoạ sĩ Rafello cũng thuộc thời Phục hưng và là người Ý.[1]

Các tác phẩm[sửa]

Ông đã viết 94 bản mixa, 202 motet, trong đó có bản Stabat Mater, 38 bản magnificat, 68 bản offertorie, các bản Lamentations, Psalm, Madrigal.[1]
